Where it all happens

HEY!

It’s been quite some time (about a month) since I have posted.  The reason for that is simple, I have had other things on my mind, and even though there were many times I thought I better post something, I just didn’t give it the time needed!  So let me tell you about my project last month.

MY WORKSPACE!!!

For many years I have had a nice size room where I was able to store all of my yarn, fabric, and other crafty things.  I worked in this room, but I always thought that one day I would do a makeover.  FINALLY it happened and I am so glad that it did!  I wanted something with a lot of color, flair, and enough space for my computer to make it into the space as well – that all happened and now I am going to share it with you through pictures 🙂  I also want to say that I found my inspiration from many different sources, including Pinterest, but mostly I just google searched if I had an idea and wanted confirmation on how to handle it.  So without further ado, here are the pictures of what I now am happy to call my workspace/office!!

So, I guess that’s it!  It’s fun to reorganize and freshen up a space, but it’s even more fun to USE it!

TIME TO GET SEWING!!

Busy, busy, busy

Isn’t that the mantra of life?  I hardly ever come across a person, that when asked, says they have nothing to do.  That at least is the case for me, I am busy.  I am good busy though and enjoying the new year very much!  I had intended on keeping up with this blog, but that has not happened as planned.  I am here now though and ready to show you what I have been up to!

I have started this cute little sampler from The Frosted Pumpkin Stitchery.  I am doing the 2014 Once Upon a Time Sampler.  I love it and am so glad that some of my stitchy friends talked me into doing it (they really had to work hard at convincing me….hehe).  I am not very far and still working on January’s pattern.  I hope to get some more stitching in on it while I watch the Olympics!

Yesterday I spent some time finding recipes for freezer meals.  I tried this in the past, but the recipes I had used required me to cook a lot of the meat before hand, the ones I did yesterday however, did not.  I absolutely love it and would really like to get into a habit of making my meals ahead of time, so that all I would have to do some really busy nights is take out a bag and cook it up or better yet, throw it in the crock pot, like I am going to do today.  I found the cost for this is much less than when I go and get a bunch of random food in smaller quantities.  Being able to buy in bulk, really does save money!  As I get more involved with this, I will share with you my strategies and recipes.  Right now, being a newbie, I better just do some testing first.  It’s going to be tough, but someone has to do it!

I have started a new crochet project.  I have yet to decide what these little African Flower Motifs are going to end up as, either a pillow or an afghan.  However, either way I am going to love it!  They are so bright and cheery!!  They are also a lot of fun to make and are a quick project when I just have a few minutes here and there.  I think I would like to do a pillow first, if it works out well, then I think I would like to put a few up for sale and see what happens.  I enjoy making them- that much!  I am following this pattern.   I actually enjoy looking through that whole blog, so bright and cheery!

A work project that I have been doing is this little owl.  A customer of mine wrote and asked if I could make her a pillow out of her Father’s old sweater (he has been passed for some years now).  I of course didn’t say no, I hardly ever do to a sentimental project that I know will be cherished!  This is a picture of all the pieces being laid out.  I had enough of the sweater to make another one as well and will be working on that today.  I will share finished pictures, these are another item that I am enjoying so much I might sell them as well.

And Finally, if you have been following my blog, you have seen some of my progress on this afghan.  Well, I was nervous about not finishing it, so I worked it up fast, so I didn’t have time to get bored! Hahaha!  Now it is one of my favorite snuggle blankets that we have in our house (and we kind of have a lot!)  I think I will be making another one like this in the future, but I would not sell them, as it takes too much time for me to do that.  Perhaps though, Christmas presents?

So I guess that is all I have for you today.  I hope that you all find something with beautiful color to work with today, there are SO MANY things that could be!!

Getting Crafty

A2

After starting my 365 day challenge of an item made per day to sell, I quickly figured out why that isn’t going to be exactly what I need to do.  Why?  Because it’s impractical.  Basically because I don’t need 365 items to sell, but also it takes away from the creativity of my products.  Some items just take more than a day to make, and I want to be able to do those items as well.  So my new “goal” as I like to call them, is to do something creative every day.  Fill some of my time with doing something that makes my heart and crafty fingers happy.

That brings me to what I have been doing that has made me very happy over the last week.  The new afghan that I have been working on!  Now I want to preface this, by saying, for the most part I don’t finish afghans.  Not because I don’t like them, but because I lose interest.  It’s unfortunate, and up until a few months ago, I had the proof of it.  Notice I said “had”, that’s because I literally through out about 5 afghans that were a quarter of the way completed.  It was kinda sad, but also helped me to move past them.  Anyways, enter Instagram.  I had downloaded it to my phone over a year ago, but never really used it.  Recently, my Dad had told me that might begin using it , and I thought….heck, I could give it a try.  This time instead of just posting a picture, I started exploring others with my same interest and found tons of ideas and amazing crafters just like myself.  I came across an afghan that screamed at me, it was jumping up and down… “make me, make me”.  I liked the pattern, so I got started, using yarn that has built up in my stash.  Now I can’t put it down.  So I thought I would share with you what I will be working on more today and in the future have a completed project of.

I hope that something that inspires you falls into your lap, but if it doesn’t, go looking for it.  It’s out there for you to find!!

“Time flies” and other cliche sayings

“Time Flies”

“All in due time”

“Better late than never”

“Rome wasn’t built in a day”

“A Stitch in time saves nine”

“The times, they are a changin”

Those are just a few of the cliches that I see posted on facebook, or hear time and time again in every day life.  It got me thinking about why we say these things.  Especially because I haven’t posted for awhile and I was going to start off by saying.  “Wow, time flies when you’re having fun!”, But then I thought…why do I need excuses and cliches to get me through?

Truth is that writing blog posts aren’t a part of my daily routine.  I like having a blog, I like that I can share my thoughts with a lot of people at one time, but in the end I still don’t do it.  So I say something  like “time flies”.  It gives a reason why we haven’t called, written, or had contact.  For me, there are things that come up that keep me from writing my blog posts.  So, with that, I will list a few things that I have been up to:

  • Bike rides with my family
  • Sewing
  • Family Vacations
  • Working out
  • Cooking
  • Going to the beach
  • Photographing the life of others
  • Battlestar Gallactica (This is a fairly new thing for us, but it’s been fun)

Mostly, I have been keeping up with summer activities while trying to still run my businesses efficiently.  Now that summer is winding down I am starting to get back into routine for work and prepare for the next 4 months of high volume with both businesses.  It’s going to be busy, things are going to get crazy, but I must love it, because I keep doing it year after year 🙂

I hope you all are able to say “Time Flies”, but then think back to why it did and smile.  Because life certainly does go fast, one minute you are holding a baby and the next she is entering 8th grade.  One minute taking naps and having snacks is your top priority, and the next you are paying bills and trying to get your kids to take naps and eat their snack.

I wish you all a great day, I know this is sort of random, maybe if I keep writing blog posts I will get better at it.

Or perhaps not. LOL

June 1, 2012 / Game changer

Since my last post was early May, I figured I at least better write something now that it is June!  Where have I been?  What have I been up to?

The answer to that is simple: living.  Mostly I have been busy with family life, getting things in order for summer vacation, preparing for the children to be home, getting my health back, crocheting, photography, and whatever came up on the calendar (and there was a lot!).

Yesterday I was trying to think about what to write about, after some brain storming, I figured it out:

The Game Changer

There are many things that have happened in my life that have been out of my control, things that the Lord gave me to deal with.  Some I am very thankful for, some I wonder why?  He has given me also the ability to make decisions…choices.

There have been three times in my life where I took the way things were and changed my way of thinking and followed a different path.  They were game changers.  I very literally can remember the words I said out loud, where I was when those decisions were made, and how it changed things.  I am at a point where I am having this feeling again, right now, and I hope that one day when I look back, I will remember this time as the fourth game changer.  For now it’s a waiting game to see if it indeed is a game changer or not.

It doesn’t matter much to anyone else what these things have been, but I wonder if you have had these moments.  I am not talking about the daily decisions, the chocolate or no chocolate (we all know the answer to that anyway- yes chocolate), but something that was in your control and you changed the path?  How did it make you feel?

I guess that is all for now.  Think about your game changers – if you have had any yet.  If you haven’t then think about what you can change or your paths and decide if you perhaps can make a game day decision…something that will change everything…

I am not too sure that any of this made sense to anyone other than me, but I thought I would share anyway 🙂  Have a wonderful June!!

Balance

Since I will be “going back to work” in about 10 days I decided that I better figure out a way to make a nice transition.  So I have been searching for ways to keep organized and help keep things balanced.  I found THIS post about a rotating goal list. I of course found this while on Pinterest.  I love the ideas that come up there, and have helped me in many ways!  (I am also working on a food planner and workout chart)  With this chart I will write in 6 projects that I want to get done in the days M-F.  If I get more than this done that’s great, but I won’t feel pressure from myself to do more.  This list won’t just be items that I want to sell, but could include things that need to get done around the house.  I suppose it’s a priority list of sorts.  I used to make lists all the time and I loved it, so I think it’s time for the list bandwagon again.

Weekly goal chart
Your goal sheet could have more than 6 spots

I hope that you all have the balance in your life that you are looking for, and if you don’t maybe this idea could help you too 🙂

Take Care,

Cil
