Where it all happens

HEY!

It’s been quite some time (about a month) since I have posted.  The reason for that is simple, I have had other things on my mind, and even though there were many times I thought I better post something, I just didn’t give it the time needed!  So let me tell you about my project last month.

MY WORKSPACE!!!

For many years I have had a nice size room where I was able to store all of my yarn, fabric, and other crafty things.  I worked in this room, but I always thought that one day I would do a makeover.  FINALLY it happened and I am so glad that it did!  I wanted something with a lot of color, flair, and enough space for my computer to make it into the space as well – that all happened and now I am going to share it with you through pictures 🙂  I also want to say that I found my inspiration from many different sources, including Pinterest, but mostly I just google searched if I had an idea and wanted confirmation on how to handle it.  So without further ado, here are the pictures of what I now am happy to call my workspace/office!!

So, I guess that’s it!  It’s fun to reorganize and freshen up a space, but it’s even more fun to USE it!

TIME TO GET SEWING!!

With crafty love,

Cil

Busy, busy, busy

Isn’t that the mantra of life?  I hardly ever come across a person, that when asked, says they have nothing to do.  That at least is the case for me, I am busy.  I am good busy though and enjoying the new year very much!  I had intended on keeping up with this blog, but that has not happened as planned.  I am here now though and ready to show you what I have been up to!

I have started this cute little sampler from The Frosted Pumpkin Stitchery.  I am doing the 2014 Once Upon a Time Sampler.  I love it and am so glad that some of my stitchy friends talked me into doing it (they really had to work hard at convincing me….hehe).  I am not very far and still working on January’s pattern.  I hope to get some more stitching in on it while I watch the Olympics!

Yesterday I spent some time finding recipes for freezer meals.  I tried this in the past, but the recipes I had used required me to cook a lot of the meat before hand, the ones I did yesterday however, did not.  I absolutely love it and would really like to get into a habit of making my meals ahead of time, so that all I would have to do some really busy nights is take out a bag and cook it up or better yet, throw it in the crock pot, like I am going to do today.  I found the cost for this is much less than when I go and get a bunch of random food in smaller quantities.  Being able to buy in bulk, really does save money!  As I get more involved with this, I will share with you my strategies and recipes.  Right now, being a newbie, I better just do some testing first.  It’s going to be tough, but someone has to do it!

I have started a new crochet project.  I have yet to decide what these little African Flower Motifs are going to end up as, either a pillow or an afghan.  However, either way I am going to love it!  They are so bright and cheery!!  They are also a lot of fun to make and are a quick project when I just have a few minutes here and there.  I think I would like to do a pillow first, if it works out well, then I think I would like to put a few up for sale and see what happens.  I enjoy making them- that much!  I am following this pattern.   I actually enjoy looking through that whole blog, so bright and cheery!

A work project that I have been doing is this little owl.  A customer of mine wrote and asked if I could make her a pillow out of her Father’s old sweater (he has been passed for some years now).  I of course didn’t say no, I hardly ever do to a sentimental project that I know will be cherished!  This is a picture of all the pieces being laid out.  I had enough of the sweater to make another one as well and will be working on that today.  I will share finished pictures, these are another item that I am enjoying so much I might sell them as well.

And Finally, if you have been following my blog, you have seen some of my progress on this afghan.  Well, I was nervous about not finishing it, so I worked it up fast, so I didn’t have time to get bored! Hahaha!  Now it is one of my favorite snuggle blankets that we have in our house (and we kind of have a lot!)  I think I will be making another one like this in the future, but I would not sell them, as it takes too much time for me to do that.  Perhaps though, Christmas presents?

So I guess that is all I have for you today.  I hope that you all find something with beautiful color to work with today, there are SO MANY things that could be!!

In health and craft love,

From the home office

This morning I realized that it had been many days since my last post, but I always wanted to have good pictures to put on here and daylight was the only time to take those pics.  The days got away from me and it was sunset before I knew it.  So, that brings us to today.

I have been busy working on many projects, some of which you will see in the picture collage below.

Untitled-1

The ripple afghan is coming along, just as it was last week.  I think I will finish it either over the weekend or early next week.  I have the “middle” rainbows done and now I can work on the last 3 colors for on the other side.  I’m loving it so much!  It makes me happy when the skies are gray.  Which they actually have been for a few days due to blizzards and snow.

The cross stitch is one of the four Christmas stockings that I want to do over the next year.  I would love to have them all done for me to use next Christmas.  I know that this is a lofty “dream”, but I know I could if I didn’t have anything else to do.  The fact is though, I have a lot of other things I could be doing and want to do!  In fact that leads us the item below:

IMG_9742These are the fabrics that I would like to use to make a crochet hook organizer.  I have been thinking about doing this for years!  I found a pattern that I am really excited about by Dots or Stripes.  I will be giving it a try next week!  I can’t decide between the butterflies and the chevron or the filigree pink and the chevron.  At least I have the weekend to decide.

Beyond all of this I have been working on a few other projects.  One is taking a vintage quilt and putting new batting in a requilting it.  It’s going well so far.  I have it all a part and think I have a plan to put it back together as close to the original as I can.

The other project is a more personal one.  This week I found out that my step mom and friend has stage 1 breast cancer.  With early detection and some wonderful Doctors things are very positive and we are all grateful for that!  I wanted to do something special for her, so I will be crocheting a row on an afghan for her until the day she calls and tells me that she is cancer free and treatment is over.  I am hoping for more of kids size blanket than adult, but know that it is all in God’s hands, and with that I find peace.

I hope that this finds you all healthy and enjoying the life around you,

In peace and craft love,

Cil

First Monday in February

I can’t believe I just typed that title.  ALREADY, the first Monday in February!  Every year I think that time goes fast, but as I am getting older I find that time flies even faster!

I have a list of things that I would like to try or do that could keep me busy for a very long time, but I always seem to think that I can fit it all in, in just a short amount of time.  Why do I ever think that is possible?  I decided at the beginning of this year that I was going to take a sabbatical from my businesses and focus on my family and finding my artistic mojo.  I thought, oh yah, two months will be enough time.  And then went ahead and listed all the things that I wanted to work on during that time.  Here is my original post:

“I am going to take a sabbatical from my photography and home and hearth businesses starting January 1st to focus on three things, and their names are, Justin, Jazmin and Jadyn. How am I going to do that you might ask? Well, I am going to do that by bettering myself. I plan on not crocheting or sewing during that time, unless I feel empowered to, but instead spend time doing things that I have not done for awhile like cross stitching, baking, working out, scrapbooking, (maybe some quilting), community choir, and taking a continuing education course in photography(I always have to be learning, it’s who I am). With this I hope to regain some zest for my businesses and make some big decisions as to the direction that they are going. By taking this time for me (and my family) I think it will give us a stronger future. I have spent much time healing from this foot thing, but have not spent many hours doing things during that time that really seemed to complete me and it’s time I take that back! I know this will be a hard thing for me to do because I am not one to say no to work, money and a challenge, but I still think it is needed.”

Seriously, did I think I could do all of that?  I lol at myself for thinking it.  What I am finding is that I love many things that I listed there.  Things that I had put off.  Things that I had forgotten about.  Things that bring happiness to both me and my family.  What I am finding is that I am going to revamp how I run my businesses to fit my family and not try to fit my family into my business.  I feel like this is going to be a really fun year, and I can’t wait to see what it brings, But I really hope it ……

S L O W S  down!
