It’s not really a secret to people that know me. I LOVE to paint. I paint walls, paint furniture, paint signs…basically I paint all the things.
Here are some samples of furniture that I have painted:
As you can see, I have a thing for turquoise obviously. Haha!
So when it came to this next project, I really didn’t know that I was going to feel so completely annoyed with the whole thing. I mean it had occurred to me, but I didn’t think that I would have “painters block” so bad. What is this extremely complicated item that I can’t possibly enjoy painting?
Stools. Three of them. They were black, they could have stayed black, but I wanted to paint them so they wouldn’t be so dark in the space they are going. So I got out the chalk paint and started painting.
I am painting the bottom white and the top a sea foam color. These are both requiring many coats to cover the chairs, even with chalk paint. Along with the extra coats, it’s just tedious work. Yesterday was a turning point though, and things started to come together.
While I was doing the sanding, I was thinking about all the waxing that had to be done, and it literally made me groan. So, I researched what others had done to seal the paint, other than wax. I know that it’s faux pas to even consider anything other than wax, but, I just wanted to try. After some research I decided to try a clear spray coat. Off I went to our local hardware store and came out with two cans of this:
I am feeling really good about the decision. I am also curious about how it will hold up over the course of months, and years. Since I already have a distressed look going, for these pieces, I don’t think that it will matter all that much.
After a blog post with so much complaining, sorry about that, I am here to tell you that it was all worth it!! They are complete and the family is rejoicing that I won’t be talking about stool painting any longer. Haha!
Here they are, in their early moments, enjoying their new life in our kitchen!
Happy crafting…er….painting everyone!!
