Creating Routine

Funny how one can think that they want a certain routine. Go through all the steps to make sure that routine works out and then you follow through.  At least for a few weeks and then something happens, you fall off track, and it’s hard to get started again.  This happens a lot, for most somewhere around that third week in January.  Your resolutions seem old by now and they usually aren’t any fun.  I mean for a lot of people exercising, eating healthy, going back to school, even cleaning out closets… just really isn’t a great time.  Things that we know we should do, but don’t.  So we make the same resolution again the following year, vowing this time it will happen!! 😉

So what can we do?  Well, this year instead of making a “resolution”, I just made a list.  Things that I would “like” to do.  Things that are a possibility, but by no means put a “have to” on them, and so far things are going pretty good.  I have many closets cleaned out, I have been exercising a bit, even working on feeding my family healthier meals.  But perhaps my most favorite thing that has become routine, is something that was not on my list: Going to the Library.  Now, I am not saying that I don’t read.  Oh I do.  I love my Kindle.  One might say that we are close companions.  But one day out of no where really it occurred to me that by not going to the library I was spending a lot of money on books that I could perhaps borrow for free.  And perhaps in that time I could bring my youngest to get her first library card.  It was a Thursday.  We went.  She got her library card.  She smiled.  So I decided we would go again the next Thursday, and the next, and the next, and the…well you get the idea. 🙂  So now we have created a routine.  Something that we enjoy doing together and brings joy to us both.  I hope it continues.

So next time you are wondering about your resolutions and what you haven’t kept up with, look around you.  It’s possible that you have created a new healthy routine without much thought, and if you haven’t maybe you will.  One never knows what is around the corner!

  1. Check with your local library, they may have free downloads for your Kindle. I don’t have a Kindle, but I know my library has the downloads available. 🙂
